NOTICE OF PROPOSED BY-LAW CHANGES

The Friends of Madrona Marsh Corporation (FOMM) Board of Directors are proposing revisions to the FOMM by-laws be adopted by a vote of the general membership at the January annual meeting.

The proposed revisions are available at the link below in PDF format and are marked in blue. A printed copy will be available at the Nature Center for review by FOMM members. Most of the revisions are contained in Article III - Members. The Board of Directors endorses these revisions and believes they will simplify the membership process and eliminate members' confusion about when their membership starts and ends. The proposed revisions also eliminate the "Patron" and "Honorary" classes of membership that were never used.

The Friends of Madrona Marsh...

A non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, education and aesthetics of the Madrona Marsh Preserve. The Friends of Madrona Marsh has been the backbone of the Madrona Marsh Preserve for more than forty years.

The organization works in coordination with the City of Torrance to create, sponsor, and conduct various activities which promote the understanding, enjoyment and preservation of the Preserve. Members and volunteers also assist in tours and different community wide projects.

The Madrona Marsh Preserve is located in Torrance, California. It is a type of wetland called a vernal marsh. "Vernal" means spring or green. Madrona Preserve’s wetlands does not have a built-in water source. When the winter and spring rains fall, enough water accumulates to sustain the marsh and provides a resting spot for migrating birds. The Madrona Marsh is an "urban oasis", providing valuable habitat in this urban area for birds, insects, spiders, frogs, reptiles, and small mammals.

The Madrona Marsh Preserve is an educational and recreational resource. Staff and volunteers offer nature walks, docent tours, bird watching and more.

Directly across the street the from the Preserve is the Nature Center. This is an educational and interpretive center for the Madrona Marsh Preserve's natural resources and places the Preserve within its regional context. The Nature Center is a place where the wonders of nature can be explored and enjoyed by all ages. The Center offers many educational programs, workshops and houses laboratories, books and other aids to understanding this unique habitat.
